‘Survival Street’ TPB (review)

This book is a pretty wild time!

It skewers so many things and it is very funny and pointed as it does so. It also has a strong viewpoint of current world that cannot be ignored, even through all of the craziness. The creators do a great job at making this book unlike anything else out there.

The book starts off showing how in the year 2028, corporations start running everything. It is a bit scary to how close this part feels to the world we live in now.

It’s not that far fetched. That is when we cut over to Salutation Street where we get to see some Sesame Street inspired characters going about their lives.

We learn that these characters were filming the television shows that they were on as a mission of sorts.

It is an undercover operation so they can eventually take out the president. The president is an awful person and has his hands in many pies. It is up to these characters to save the world against the American government!

We get to learn all of the characters through the story. They are all very recognizable to their Sesame Street character inspirations. While it is part of the charm of the book, it didn’t connect with me as much as I wanted it to. The “gimmick,” if we can call it that, made it a little hard to identify with the characters, no matter how absurd and crazy this book gets.

The artwork by Abylay Kussainov is very interesting. The story is very interesting visually for sure and the character design is outstanding. It does move a little quick moment to moment and it does take you out a bit when reading.

Overall though this is a worthwhile book to read. It does go to some really dark places and it had enough twists and surprises to keep me engaged most of the time while reading this series.
