We haven’t had an Earth One book come down the pike in quite some time.
Yet, luckily, the creative team from the first two Wonder Woman: Earth One books are back for this final one. It is a great volume and it really ties up the story they have been telling quite well.
This volume is a bit different from the previous two.
While the other volumes were very much intellectual and not so action oriented, this one is quite the opposite. This allows the creative team to really cut loose here. Much like the second Wonder Woman movie, the villain here is none other than Max Lord.
Good ole Max is prepping to launch a full scale assault on Paradise Island.
Wonder Woman knows that it is coming and she has to try and unite the various clans and tribes on the island. So she travels home to do just that.
Meanwhile, the clock is ticking and the assault is impending.
Wonder Woman has some obstacles to get through.
One of them is convincing Artemis to help. The two of them tussle.
Things start to look dark. That is when Lord attacks leading to one of the coolest action scenes that I have seen in quite some time. It also doesn’t end quite how I expected it to end.
Writer Grant Morrison does a great job as always on this book. He writes one hell of a story, and really nails the dialogue. Artist Yanick Paquette is one of the very best out there and this is the best work of his career. This book is well drawn and well designed. Nobody can design a page like Paquette.
All in all, this is a worthy last book of a thrilling Earth One saga.
