Now this is a nice surprise. I had no idea that this was coming out!
This is a new story for DC’s Black Label line of books written by the awesome Tom Taylor and drawn by the equally awesome Darick Robertson! I was so excited to dig into this book!
So, to start off this book, a billionaire literally falls out of the sky. He soars through the air until he is finally impaled on a church spire.
It is a pretty gruesome beginning and is reminiscent of the Garth Ennis run of this character.
The billionaire had angel wings attached to his back.
Then, more people fall from the sky.
From this, we get to meet a detective named Aisha Bukhari. She is trying to get to the bottom of everything.
So, of course, she seeks help from one of her friends, John Constantine.
They meet at bar for a drink.
Constantine, of course, acts like a bastard. But he listens and eventually signs up to help figure out just what the heck is going on. Things get rather crazy from there as magic and craziness ensues. In the process, we learn about Aisha’s past, and how it relates to Constantine’s as well.
Writer Tom Taylor has a great handle on Constantine and his world right from the get go. The story is dark, funny, and layered. The art by Robertson is a real treat. He has got this character down perfectly.
All in all, this is an awesome start to what looks to be a great limited series.
