‘Future State: House of El #1’ (review)

Written by Phillip Kennedy Johnson
Art by Yanick Paquette, Scott Godlewski
Published by DC Comics

The best thing to come out of the Future State story has got to be that Phillip Kennedy Johnson is writing the upcoming Superman books.

He is the writer for this one shot and man, this is great. I love his take on the characters and I can’t wait to see where he takes us.

This exciting issue takes us centuries into the future! The bloodline of the House of El continues!

I loved this book from the very first page. There is a nice positive vibe of bouncing off the very first pages. It’s great to see.

We are immediately introduced to a whole new set of characters.

These Kryptonian heroes have gathered together to face off against one of the most diabolical villains that they have ever faced.

His name is the Red King. And he is one scary dude. But these new Kryptonians aren’t going to back down from a fight.

So we get to meet Rowan and Ronan Kent, as well as a whole cool cast of supporting characters. We get to see what the whole family is about now. Best of all, they are led by Kal-El, the original Superman. It is one wild book with new possibilities on every page.

Phillip Kennedy Johnson is a genius. Not only has he written a great issue here, but he developed an entirely new approach to Superman. The art is great too, and really shines throughout. I hope this is a part of the new direction Superman is taking.

Because if it is? I am damn excited about what is to come.

RATING: A+
