This revival is pretty damn intriguing.
I loved the first issue. I didn’t get everything that was going on but that was part of the fun. This issue is pretty enjoyable as well. It also answers a few of the questions that the previous issue presented.
The first issue turned the entire previous series on it’s head.
There is a new boy that is the focus of this series. Here, we saw a bit of his journey leaving the space that he was in. It was much like the first series of Sweet Tooth with a bit of a twist.
The Boy who is our lead character did not listen to his Father. So the Father is pretty mad at him. Because of this, the Boy realizes that he might never be free.
The Boy is basically “sent to his room” and punished for his actions. The only thing that his room is a horrible and horrifying place to actually go to.
But then, something emerges from this room that changes the course of the story.
Of course, it is a callback to the previous series. I don’t want to spoil what it is but it really works well and it was quite the twist. This sets the story off into a new and quite unexpected direction.
Jeff Lemire proves himself an auteur with this comic series yet again. The writing is sharp and emotional. The art is pleasant to look at. I am wondering how he is going to make this a satisfying series in just six issues.
That being said, if anyone could do it, it certainly would be Lemire.
