There’s no doubt that the boldest and most personal fashion statement anyone can make is in one’s selection of t-shirt. Personally, I love them. It’s an opportunity to show the world what pop culture I care about, a wonderful flashback to the past and a fantastic way to initiate any nerd discussion.
For this installment of Cool Shirts, I took a look at some of the shirts from Nerd Kung Fu, which might very well have the largest selection of pop culture t-shirts that I’ve ever seen. What’s even more awesome is that their nerdy wares isn’t limited to their shirt collection. They also sell a wide array of posters and a number of geek-centric ephemera including coffee mugs, shot glasses, pint glasses, blankets, wallets, buttons, magnets, playing cards, hoodies and much more.
Their selection of shirts is staggering, with some of their latest releases focusing on some of the most iconic properties in pop culture including Gilligan’s Island, Labyrinth, CHiPs, The Sandlot, The X-Files, Family Guy, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Office Space and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. They also carry shirts in sizes small through 7XL and the site is filled with lots of nerdy trivia on the history of t-shirts!
There is something for virtually any nerdcentric provocation. These are some of my recent favorites.
Back to the Future T-Shirt – Back to Japan
The entire world has fond memories of Hill Valley, California, home of Marty McFly and his mentor, Doctor Emmett Brown.
And based on the design of this shirt, the entire world includes Japan.
This shirt features to Back To The Future logo in Japanese and the DeLorean time machine zooming into the past (or is it the future?) leaving a trail of flames in it’s wake as it hits the needed 88 miles per hour!

Pee Wee Herman T-Shirt – Bow Tie
Are you a loner? A rebel? Do you listen to reason?
Is this something you can share with the rest of us Amazing Larry?
This shirt is a must have for anyone who likes a Big Adventure or a Big Top. Or better yet, someone who digs a playhouse.
For whatever reason you like Pee Wee, that’s reason enough to celebrate his magic with this shirt.
Meka Leka Hi Meka Hiney Ho!
Redd Fox might have been the foulest mouthed standup comedian of all time. Which is why it still amazes me that I had a photo of him on my wall when I was three years old.
The star of Sanford and Son was a legend; from a longtime friendship with Malcolm X to his breaking down racial barriers as a comedy headliner, Foxx recorded over 50 comedy albums during his career.
On Sanford and Son, Foxx redefined black sitcoms, handling race and prejudice regularly. He was also funny as all hell and the master of the putdown; “You’re so ugly, I could push your face in some dough and make gorilla cookies.”
Batman the Brave and the Bold Rooftop Leap
Not only was this take one of my favorites ever, capturing the magical and sometimes silly era of DC’s Silver Age, but also the character design pays homage to my favorite Bat-artist, Dick Sprang.
This shirt features the Caped Crusader leaping off of a roof, presumably into a new adventure.
All that’s missing from this perfect image is a Boy Wonder at his side.
Wearing his iconic yellow jumpsuit seen in the film, Game of Death, this shirt shows one of pop culture’s biggest heroes, Bruce Lee, looking completely badass.
With only a handful of films to his name before his untimely death, Lee (like another cinematic legend, James Dean) will live forever at the magic age where his presence was indelible.
And to this day from generation to generation, he’s unrivaled and beloved.

Okay sucka! There’s nothing that screams nostalgia more than the sight of Lawrence Tureaud aka Mr. T.
For a generation, Mr. T was as big a celebrity as you could find. He made his debut kicking Stallone’s ass in Rocky III before conquering television as B.A. Baracus on The A-Team.
With memorable appearances on everything from Diff’erent Strokes to WrestleMania to The Chipmunks to starring in his own Saturday morning animated series, Mr. T was and ever shall be the one pitying fools. This shirt is a reminder of all things good. Stay gold, Mr. T!
