‘Future State: Robin Eternal #1’ (review)

Written by Meghan Fitzmartin
Art by Eddy Barrows
Published by DC Comics

This is a title who’s concept intrigued me.

We haven’t has a really decent Robin title in years, nor a good Tim Drake story. This book looked like it was going to be both of those things for me.

I am excited to say that I was not in the least bit disappointed with this book.

The opening pages of this book feature a more adult Tim Drake going up against the Magistrate’s army.

They are fighting in the middle of Gotham City. It is an exciting scene, but Tim is saved at the end of it by Stephanie Brown who is also known as the Spoiler.

I was immediately in love with this. I love these two characters and love them together.

We get a scene where Tim and Stephanie argue a bit. This helps fill in the blanks for where we are with these two characters.

It isn’t long however, until these two are back in action!

We get to see the two of them do a bit of detective work. There is a mystery afoot. Yet, the two of them are carrying a lot of emotional baggage. Their feelings for each other may not hold out before they can finish the case in front of them.

The story by Fitzmartin is creative and fun. The art by Eddy Barrows is spectacular, however. I love Barrows in general and his art here is pretty damn good.

Overall, this is a worthwhile read and I enjoyed it very much. I can’t wait for the next issue!

RATING: A-
