‘Cave Carson Has An Interstellar Eye  #4’ (review)

Written by Jon Rivera
Illustrated by Michael Avon Oeming
Published by DC Comics

This issue opens with Cave Carson and the gang being cooped up for too long.

So they go on an adventure to a base of sorts . They go into the compound and they explore it. The base is a singularity that Star Adam created.

Cave is full of life again so why not explore?

He’s reinvigorated and ready to get into trouble!

Well, trouble finds him and his gang all right.

They find a warship! That wouldn’t be so bad, but the warship is manned by these crazy skeletons.

We get a little bit of back story on these skeletons. Then, we learn that they they still want to finish the mission that they set out to do. This puts Cave and gang at odds with these nutty skeletons.

Rivera keeps the script moving, even when it’s completely bizarre. It’s completely fun discovering things about this skeleton crew as Cave and gang do. You find yourself saying “don’t do it!”a lot while reading it.

And then Cave goes and does it anyway. The results are usually crazier than you would expect.

My favorite line is when Cave uses his eye to see the last. When he is done, he is asked “What did you see?” His reply was “Someone who lost perspective.” It’s stuff like this that really make Rivera one of the best writers in comics.

The art is simple but great from Oeming. It has the style and energy of a Jack Kirby comic. But it’s it’s own unique thing. And it’s a book that will be missed greatly once The Young Animal line packs up house in the next couple of months.

RATING: A
