‘Superman #30’ (review)

Written by Phillip Kennedy Johnson, Sean Lewis
Art by Scott Godlewski, Sami Basri
Published by DC Comics

Writer Phillip Kennedy Johnson has given the Superman line of books a much needed shot in the arm.

Man, what a difference a couple of months make. He has done incredible world building with this line of books that is just spectacular. Best yet, he seems to be just getting started.

At the beginning of this book, there is a strange signal coming from space.

Apparently one of Superman’s old friends is in a bit of trouble and needs help. So, Superboy joins his father to see if they can be of help.

They fly off into space and they find the signal but not the alien who sent it.

So, Superman and Jon go to look to see if they can find them. Instead, they find a shamanistic leader talking about something called the Shadowbreed.

This leads into Clark and Jon investigating just what is going on here. That is when they find themselves up against one hell of a foe. The story is sharp and exciting and the art by Scott Godlewski is really great.

This is an awesome story and I was at the edge of my seat for a lot of it.

There is also a backup story by Sean Lewis and Sami Basri. This story features the return of Ambush Bug. The artwork by Basri is nice but Ambush Bug is one of those characters that you wish stayed lost.

Oh well, at least the main story is good.

RATING: A
