This is the penultimate issue of Penultiman!
It has been a pretty wild ride thus far too with this book. It is a nice subversive take on the modern superhero that works really well. It has a perfect mix of humor and pathos and I have really been enjoying it.
This issue starts off with Penultiman at a cabin chopping up some wood. He is doing this to escape his mind and relax. It isn’t going so well.
So, he retreats into a self help book. That is supposed to help him even himself out. He thinks it does, but it is really being very harmful to him.
That is when Antepenultiman shows up and has a talk with our hero.
This leads into truly strange, yet hilarious territory. Antepenultiman comes up with a sidekick of his very own.
This actually backfires on him in a crazy way. His story parallels that of our main character.
Penultiman tries to get himself together.
He had better do it quick too, otherwise there may be some truly deadly consequences. By the end of the issue, we get a look at what that might be. We are left with a cliffhanger that made me want to find out how this all ends.
The writing by Peyer is a boatload of fun. He knows how to make things interesting and also give us a nice dash of social commentary. The art by Alan Robinson is perfect for this book as well.
All in all, this is a fine series and I have found this to be extremely entertaining.
