Ibid Filmworks have picked up the rights to Derf’s graphic novel/memoir, My Friend Dahmer.
Cartoonist Derf (John Backderf) was a high school friend of Dahmer’s and the acclaimed graphic novel paints a disturbing picture of the serial killer beginning at, “age 12, when he was a shy, bespectacled kid, right up to the day he
kills his first victim two weeks after high school graduation.”
Derf was part of Dahmer’s social circle during this time, the bizarre world of 1970s suburbia and chronicles Dahmer as a troubled teenager, “slowly descending into darkness as
his divorcing parents, high school teachers, and peers stand by and do
nothing.”
According to the producers, the film won’t be a horror tale, but rather a coming of age tale akin to Welcome to the Dollhouse and Dazed and Confused via Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer.
