‘Soggy Landing’ OGN (review)

Written by the Brothers McGovern
Art by Ian Densford
Published by Oni Press

Oni Press has turned out some of the more interesting comic works of the last ten or fifteen years. I will give pretty much anything that they do a shot.

This one was a bit of a stretch for me, but once I gave myself over to it, I was enthralled. This was an entertaining book from start to finish.

Soggy Landing used to be a beautiful paradise people loved to travel to. That all changed and now the place is a brutal hellhole that nobody would want to go to.

There are a bunch of cultists there now too, called “the 13.”

There is also a plague going around the city that the 13 are immune to.

The 13 also represent the wealthy in the city. There is a group called the Broken Wheel and they represent more of the poor side of the island. Basically this book shows us a war between the haves and the have nots.

We are then introduced to Otso and her friend, Slipper. The two of them join the Broken Wheel in their fight against the 13.

Otso and Slipper start to explore the island with the Broken Wheel. There is definitely more going on below the surface of things.

Did they join the right group? Is there more going on than they originally thought? How will it all end between the two?

The whole story comes to a head by the end and it is quite a surprise.

I have to hand it to the writers for making such an interesting and unique concept flourish. The script is fun and fast and there is a lot to it. The artwork is amazing. I have never seen the work of Ian Densford before, but now I want to track down everything he’s done. It is some great stuff for sure.

Overall, I think this is a great book that really keeps the fun going throughout.

RATING: B+
