Howard Chaykin is making something of a masterpiece with this comic book.
It is a fictional retelling of comic book history. The reader can fill in the blanks for themselves. That being said, you can certainly see the parallels to the real history of comics.
We got to see the rise of comics in the previous series.
It paralleled the Golden Age and the beginning of the popularity of comics. We got to see a lot of history being matched and the rise of that era. Now with this book, we get to see that Golden era destroyed.
Well, more like the people who are creating the comics are destroyed as well as their personal lives.
Let it be said that Chaykin doesn’t hold back here. Comic books needed a revolution. The industry gets one here.
That means new stars and new talent. This also means a new type of fan. We get to see the whole industry get turned onto its head. But we also get to see the people the industry leaves behind.
It is truly bizarre and completely feels real. Probably because it is.
Chaykin really takes a magnifying glass to the industry and the people in it. This is a well written book. It is also well illustrated.
It currently is my favorite book coming out at the moment. Well done.
