‘Catwoman 2021 Annual #1’ (review)

Written by Ram V
Art by Kyle Hotz,
Fernando Blanco, Juan E. Ferreyra

Published by DC Comics

Ram V has done a really decent job of turning the Catwoman book into something just different enough than normal. The stories have been fairly well done and I like the direction that he has taken these characters.

Overall, it has been pretty fun.

This annual focuses on the Father Valley character.  Who is this mysterious character? Where does he hail from and what does he want?

These are questions that the annual tries to answer, sometimes in interesting ways.

The book does feel like it is trying to fill pages. I mean. There is a lot to like. We get an origin story that takes us to his mysterious past.

We get to see how Father Valley got to be the hate filled person that he is today.

It isn’t very pretty.

We get to see his relationship to the order of Saint Dumas. We get to see how he relates to Azrael. Most importantly, we get to see how he relates to Catwoman and how they know each other. We get to see how Catwoman ended up on his hit list.

The story is interesting enough. Ram V does a solid job on script. The artwork by Kyle Hotz is very good. I like Hotz. His work here is the best part of the book.

Overall, this isn’t a bad annual at all, even though the story feels stretched out.

RATING: B
