‘The Scumbag #8’ (review)

Written by Rick Remender
Art by Alex Riegel, Moreno Dinisio
Published by Image Comics

This book is something else.

I have been enjoying the craziness that it brings month in and month out. It is so much fun to read that I literally cannot get enough. Every issue is a bit of lunacy and I just like what happens a whole lot.

This issue continues the latest storyline.

Ernie, our resident Scumbag, is in a whole lot of trouble. He went to the moon on a top secret mission to stop the Moonflower cult but now finds himself in a bad position. He infiltrated the cult. But now he is in over his head.

At first, it seemed like the cult had a bit of a point. He even came to understand them and what they were offering. But slowly over the course of this issue, we get to see how the cult is affecting Ernie’s mental state.

As the issue goes on, we get to see various things happen that make Ernie go crazy.

Can he escape this cult? Is there any help coming for this guy? Ernie starts to see and realize just how dangerous this Moonflower cult really is.

The question becomes, can Ernie’s usual bag of tricks do anything in this situation?

The story is a lot of crazy fun. Writer Rick Remender is really cutting loose and it shows on every single page. The art is something special in this series as well. This issue is pretty damn good as well on that front.

I look forward to more adventures and I hope this series lasts a long time.

RATING: A
