‘The Silver Coin #2’ (review)

Written by Kelly Thompson
Art by Michael Walsh
Published by Image Comics

I am not the biggest fan of anthology books but this one might have something going for it.

This is a horror anthology book by some real all star creators. The first issue had Chip Zdarsky writing a story and this one has writer Kelly Thompson. This is an excellent issue indeed.

The story takes place in the year 1993 at a summer camp.

Right away, I was hooked as I remember that time period and being in camp and the details of this are very good.

We get to meet a young lady in this story who is more than just a bit of a misfit.

Of course, she is bullied. The girls who bully her are quite mean. But that is not all of the misfit’s problems.

She comes across the Silver Coin and basically gets some power over the mean girls. That is when things get really dark.

The whole thing turns into a classic horror movie.

People are killed. There is a bunch of terror to be had. And the misfit girl must fight for her life against the coin and some really bad decision making. The whole thing is just a good time.

The story by Thompson is very well done. The dialogue is good and the story really cooks. The art by Michael Walsh is perfect for this book. It is dark and moody and appropriate.

I enjoyed this very much and look forward to the next issue.

RATING: A
