‘Generations Forged #1’ (review)

I am not so sure of why this book exists. It is both very interesting and very annoying. The story is sort of all over the place, but I feel like that might be due to trying to cram too much in. This was supposed to be part of a DC event but now feels awkward.

The opening scene is basically the best scene of the book.

We get to see Dominus with his family at their home. He is a good dad. Yet, something is wrong. We can feel the sense of dread in that scene and it is very effective. Artist Mike Perkins draws this scene and the two others in the book featuring this scenario and it is great, working as a framing device for the story.

That’s when we see that the timeline is in trouble!

Yes, that old storyline again. It would be cool if there was something different happening with this concept.

But there isn’t.

Heroes from different timelines come together to fight a big threat. They also have to figure out how to restore the timeline!

A lot of craziness happens.  Honestly, there are so many different art styles on this book and none of them match that I lost interest. The heroes find a bigger threat in their path than they originally anticipated. It all leads to a conclusion that is tepid at best. I shook my head after I finished this asking what the point of this was.

And what is the point of this book? I’m not sure. The writers and artists are all okay but there is nothing cementing this book together. That is a shame. With a little more effort this could have been great.

Sadly, I had a feeling this book will be lost in time itself as there is nothing grounding it to anything.
