James Tynion IV has been writing a pretty boring storyline these last few issues. It feels like he has run out of any steam he might have had with this series.
It is a shame because you can really feel it when reading this issue. I was bored for a lot of it, and I was hoping for the story to turn around.
It never did.
After last issue’s events, Ghost-Maker has seemingly vanished.
Where did he go?
That is the mystery at the beginning of the issue.
It is hardly suspenseful, however, as Tynion tips his hand much too early, and it makes the story lose any suspense that it could have possibly had.
We get to watch as Batman tries to track this villain down. While he is doing so, Batman is trying to find out clues as to who this guy is and what his origins might be. To be honest, I found this part of the book to be dull and unexciting.
Finally, we get to see the Ghost-Maker try to take out both Harley Quinn and the Clownhunter.
They are all trying to kill each other and it all becomes a bit much. It all leads to a static end to this book that just lands awfully.
The story isn’t good at all. I can hardly fault the artists on any of it, though. They are all talented and they do their best.
Sadly, they cannot elevate the script and the whole thing feels more than just a little pointless.
