‘Stranger Things Halloween Special  #1’ (review)

Stranger Things has become quite the phenomenon.

There have been other comics based on the hit Netflix show, but this time the kids are getting a Halloween special. Makes sense to me. Stranger Things and Halloween would seem to be made for each other.

The issue opens with the kids telling ghost stories to each other. The stories are pretty lame and they are looking for that one story that would be absolutely terrifying.

That is when one of them mentions the child eater of Hawkins. Suddenly, things get pretty crazy.

That is what this issue is about. We see the history of the child eater of Hawkins. We see a previous investigation happens that is pretty intense and involved.  It is entertaining but rather simple.

The kids get involved with the case, of course. It is fairly simplistic how it is all solved. I have to be honest about this. It lacks a lot of the charm and intrinsic intelligence that the show displays. Instead, we get a cut and dried story that never really takes off.

The story is okay at best. The art is pretty decent, however. It captures the likenesses of the characters well. It also captures the feel of the show.

This is a mediocre tie-in that could have been so much better.

RATING: C
