The seemingly never ending Leviathan storyline continues here.
We finally found out Leviathan’s true identity in the last series, and now all hell seems poised to break out!
Even though it doesn’t seem to have any ramifications in any DC books besides Action Comics (as far as I can tell) this series is billed “super important.” Yet, it hardly feels that way.
The opening scene has Steve Trevor in a prison talking to Kingsley Jacobs.
The scene exists to basically catch the audience up.
But man, it is a bore.
Jacobs tells Trevor he has been wrongfully imprisoned and blamed.
The two of them learn to trust each other and then are off to stop Leviathan!
But are they too late?
From there we get a fairly lame scene which is basically a gathering of heroes. They have all been humiliated by Leviathan and want to strike back.
And that is basically what this issue is: Heroes looking to take a stand against Leviathan. Bendis uses this issue as build up. Yet, it dragged pretty badly for me.
We get to see Lois Lane gathering stuff. We get to see Bones over in Arkham Asylum talk a bit about his plans. The issue does pick up a tad when Green Arrow appears.
I started to get a little excited.
Then, we get to see The Question trying to figure out what Leviathan was stealing. I hate the way Bendis writes the Question. And we do see Robin and Manhunter in a scene which doesn’t add up to much as well as a scene with Talia al Ghul.
By the end of the issue we get to see the players all gathered. We also get to see Leviathan revealing what he wants.
We also barely get any action in this issue. At least the art by Maleev is nice to look at. Still, it cannot conceal that there isn’t much happening that is very involving, nor is it very exciting.
