‘Dial H For Hero #8’ (review)

This has been a fun, if somewhat slight read. I really am enjoying the stuff that series writer Sam Humphries has been coming up with on this title. It has been a good time.

I feel like it could go a bit deeper as a whole but overall it is a pretty entertaining comic book read.

This issue is a bit of a change of pace. It focuses on Robby Reed who is also known as The Operator.

It shows the Operator in his comic book like world.

The issue shows Robby’s life and I guess you would call it an “origin story” of sorts.

It gets highly dramatic like some comic books do.

It shows Robby losing sight of who he is by dressing up as the Operator. It shows the death of his gramps.

It shows how grief stricken Robby is over that death and how he uses it to infuse his crime fighting career. It is all done with a gentle touch and it is highly amusing.

We get to see the world that the Operator creates inside the Dial H device. We get to see some of the dangers that happen. We get to see some of the evil that comes forth because of it. It is nicely developed throughout.

The only thing that I didn’t care for was that this issue holds up the main story to give us back story. The story thus far had some really nice build up to this issue. And this just holds all of that up without moving the overall story forward all that much.

The art is pretty decent throughout. And we do get a one page little bit of Miguel that moves the story forward. It is not a bad issue overall but it does feel a bit like filler. I always like something more than that.
