‘The Flash #58’ (review)

Written by Joshua Williamson
Illustrated by Rafa Sandoval
Published by DC Comics

Man, if you put Gorilla City into a comic book, I’m immediately in.

And lo and behold, that is exactly what Joshua Williamson has done with this book.

The cover asks us “What Is The Secret of Gorilla City?” It shows the Flash battling a bunch of gorillas.

Automatically, I’m putting this at the top of my reading list.

The title of this new storyline is “Force Quest.” It starts off with a trolley that has gone out of control. Barry goes and saves everyone. It’s a pretty typical start to a comic book. He finds the person responsible fairly quick and all’s well that ends well.

Or so it seems.

Barry though, is having a rough time. It seems like there are a bunch of new forces out there like the Strength, Sage and Still Forces.

They are out there in the universe. Barry has to figure out how to contain them. Therefore, he decides to take a vacation and leave Central City to find out more about the origins of these forces.

This leads Barry down a rabbit hole. He starts to investigate. And that investigation leads him down a dark path that he wasn’t expecting.

By the end of the issue, it leads him straight to Gorilla City. The problem is that when he gets there, he finds a bunch of dead gorillas. Just what is going on here? It’s quite a cliffhanger we are left with!

The story is strong as can be. My favorite thing is the art by Sandoval. He’s an amazing choice for this character.

Hopefully he becomes the permanent artist. This is really a good start to a new storyline. I’m loving it. It’s only getting a B+ though because it needed more gorillas.

RATING: B+
