‘Nightwing #48’ (review)

Written by Benjamin Percy
Illustrated by Amancay Nahuelpan
Published by DC Comics

Boy, is this title doing great now. What a difference a new writer and a couple of issues make. This is another great issue that’s full of excitement. I look forward to each new issue now. Benjamin Percy has renewed my interest in this character and I’m loving what I am reading. And this issue is just nuts.

The issue starts off on the Isle of Harm.

Nightwing is forced to save the life of an old friend. When the issue opens, we see him competing in the Isle of Harm’s big motorcycle race. It’s an awesome way to begin an issue and it hooked me right away. I was giggling with glee.

Why?

Because Nightwing’s motorcycle is just simply the coolest thing ever.

From there, we found out it’s a three day racing event. We see Nightwing drinking with the other racers after the first day which is a great touch by Percy.

We see somebody knocking off the other racers. We then see that somebody is trying to take out Nightwing as well.

This all leads up to the second day of racing. It’s hilarious and well done. I love the announcer of the race in particular. This race track however isn’t what you think it is. By the end of this issue we see that the track does indeed go elsewhere. It’s much different than I thought but I was totally enraptured by the end.

I wasn’t sure I would like the art by Amancay Nahuelpan in the beginning. Man, did it grow on me. By the end I was completely digging it. This is a great issue and another fine story by Percy. I can’t wait for the next issue!

RATING: B+
