The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films is thrilled to announce that actor, comedian, and television host Joel McHale (Animal Control, Community, Scream 7) will host the upcoming 53rd Annual Saturn Awards ceremony for the fourth consecutive year. The Awards Show will take place on March 8, 2026, at the Universal Hilton in Los Angeles. The Saturns are the only awards show that have been honoring the best in genre entertainment since 1972. The announcement was made today by Robert Holguin, President of The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films.
Academy President Robert Holguin and Saturn producers Bradley and Kevin Marcus comment, “Each year, the Saturn Awards continue to grow, attracting even more remarkable talent. This year is no exception. Having Joel return to guide the laughs and shape the rhythm of the show ensures the kind of unforgettable experience audiences have come to expect.”
Joel McHale continues, “I’ve been amazed by the growth and evolution of this one-of-a-kind awards show, and I’m thrilled to be part of its continued rise. It’s an honor to host each year and to witness firsthand how quickly it keeps expanding.”
Past award show honorees, winners and attendees include Keanu Reeves, Mark Hamill, Colin Farrell, Christopher Nolan, James Cameron, Nicolas Cage, Emily Blunt, Jodie Foster, Laurence Fishburne, Denis Villeneuve, Kevin Feige, James Gunn, Hiroyuki Sanada, Seth MacFarlane, Christopher Lloyd, Lea Thompson, Patrick Stewart and William Shatner, among many other celebrated figures in film, television, and home media.
This year’s nominations and special Saturn Awards Honors will be announced in the next few weeks.
The Academy was created in 1972 by noted film historian Dr. Donald A. Reed to recognize films often overlooked by mainstream awards. The Saturn Awards is the oldest awards ceremony for genre entertainment.
