“Distribution is a mess. A recent situation motivated me to decide to use my 30 years’ experience working in the industry and throw my hat in the ring. I grew up in video stores. I love physical media. And the notion of controlling the fate of movies I put my heart and soul into just makes sense. And hopefully soon, I can help other filmmakers get their work seen as well,” said Malcom Ingram.
“Mercantile Instinct is what every storyteller needs if they want to get their work into the hands and hearts of the audience. The Mercantile Instinct website represents best how a filmmaker can distribute direct to the consumer,” said Kevin Smith.
The CLERK story follows the first-time director from before he takes the world by surprise at the Sundance Film Festival with his seminal indie comedy sensation ‘Clerks’ and follows his life and cinematic output since. Like his films, the documentary examines Kevin’s affinity for countless juicy topics from male relationships and sexuality to religious fanaticism and comic book culture.
Using interviews, clips, testimonials and never-before-seen archival footage, “CLERK” is a colorful oral history of one of the entertainment industry’s most incredible journeys, as told by his friends, his collaborators, industry professionals and the Not So Silent Bob himself, Kevin Smith.
Following Clerk, Mercantile Instinct will continue with releases of Ingram’s Continental and Phantom of Winnipeg in the next year.
