Back To School Review: BenQ e-Reading LED Desk Lamp

As someone who spends the majority of their day in front of a computer, it should come as little surprise that the strain on my eyes takes its toll.  Fortunately, I’ve had the opportunity to check out BenQ’s e-Reading LED Desk Lamp, which unquestionably has made my time in front of the screen easier with the world’s first lamp that is specifically designed for digital screen time.

It’s versatility is one of the appeals.  It works well with any screen, be it a tablet, laptop, phone or desktop, completely eliminating glare and offering a number of special features including evenly brightness distribution and smart e-reading mode, which features an ambient light sensor which automatically adjusts for the balance of the lamp’s range (which is 150% wider than standard).  A dial provides the ability to switch from warm tones to cooler tones for your ideal situation (which in my case is multitasking) and with this BenQ lamp I can evenly distribute the illumination across my desk.  Plus, it features stable flicker-free light (via ZeroFlicker Technology).

The physical design of the lamp is also impressive.  It’s heavy (over 10 lbs.) with options for a desk clamp or floor stand extension (sold separately). The arm is extremely stable and sturdy with no need to constantly adjust screws to hold an position; it’s steady no matter the angle.  The touch ring switch is sensitive (and can be used to turn the lamp on/off or adjust the lighting with a single touch) and the round knob can adjust the brightness smoothly. The wire itself is also pretty impressive, wrapped in fabric, setting it apart from any other power cord.

There’s no question that this lamp is expensive (It’s currently available for $189), but if you clock in serious time in front of a screen, it’s worth it.  The strain on my eyes has lessened and the ability to adjust the light to my needs and preferences have allowed me to have better focus while working.  The flexibility and versatility unquestionably make this a must have.
