‘Nemesis: Reloaded’ TPB (review)

Written by Mark Millar
Art  by Jorge Jimenez
Published by Image Comics

Nemesis was amongst Mark Millar’s first few books from his “Millarverse.” He created it with artist Steve McNiven and it was a pretty wild book! The comic was based on a concept of “what if Batman was a supervillain?”

There were four issues and it had a few moments that were definitely cringey.

But we haven’t heard much from this character since.

That all changes with this new miniseries. Jorge Jimenez takes over art duties and he is definitely the man for the job. The artwork is fresh and well done and the action scenes are definitely clean and easy to follow.

I think Jimenez is one of the best artists currently working in comics. I hope the man doesn’t slow down his output either! It has been really great.

The story itself is a reboot of the previous series. Nemesis is a character who always wins, no matter what. He is always the smartest guy in the room and nobody can stand a chance against him. It is a little annoying reading the book because of that.

But then Millar does something really cool and new with the story.

He delves into the origin of Nemesis. It is very much like a Batman origin. We get to see the trials and tribulations that the character goes through and where he comes from. There is enough of a spin that it really works in a unique way. It also spins heavily into the story and the future of the Millarworld books.

The whole plot leads to an explosive ending where all of the various threads come together. It works much better than the original series, where the ending felt more like a throwaway. The ending of this book feels like there is more to come for this character and I think it is a good thing.

Hopefully, even past the Big Game crossover this summer, we get more from Nemesis, sooner rather than later.

RATING: A-
