When I was a kid in the 80s, one of my favorite movies was Creepshow, an anthology film directed by the horror schlockmeister George A. Romero and written by Stephen King.
While I refer to Romero as a purveyor of junk, it would be more accurate to call Romero a purveyor of campy goodness. The Creepshow movie was a huge hit that spawned several sequels and a stand-alone TV series.
To be transparent, I am not a massive fan of anthology series. I used to be when I was a kid; however, as my tastes have changed, I have become a fan of ongoing serialized stories.
However, something about the nature of horror makes it just right for short stories, and this new Creepshow series gets it right.
Based on the hit Shudder TV series, the worldwide phenomenon comes to comics in a star-studded five-issue anthology series guaranteed to terrify readers gleefully. The collected trade paperback features the work of industry giants Chris Burnham, Paul Dini, Erica Henderson, Francesco Francavilla, and Kyle Starks. Creepshow is more fun than it deserves to be, and I thoroughly devoured every bit of this book.
