That is Stetson’s job in the world, created by Tyler Burton Smith and brought to life by Vanessa Cardinali.
Stetson is a nightmare hunter and dream detective who runs a back-alley business where she helps her clients achieve a good night’s sleep by entering their dreams and killing their worst nightmares.
It is a weird way to make a living.
However, Stetson is after something else far more important than a paycheck; Stetson is looking for revenge, one monster at a time.
Stetson’s life is about to be turned upside down when her quest for vengeance brings her face to face with her past as a series of murders in the real world draw a connection to an unresolved case from Stetson’s past, making her the prime suspect for the police and the prime target of a serial killer.
Slumber is a helluva fun time.
Smith manages to balance both comedy and horror. The book is laugh-out-loud and funny as it can be creepy and scary. Cardinali’s art mirrors that balance by being cartoonish and over-the-top gory when the need arises.
My only issue with the book is that it wraps up its initial storyline but leaves several characters’ fates in the air. I’m unsure if there will be volume two, but if there is, I look forward to seeing what happens next!
