Game of Thrones is back on our TV screens with House of the Dragon, and after the disappointment that was the latter half of GOT, we’re all excited to see just how great this show is. It feels like a return to form, a study of characters in a mythical fantasy setting that combines the best features of talky political dramas and swashbuckling, firebreathing fantasy. The show follows the story of the Targaryan dynasty 300 years before the original Game of Thrones and visits a host of new beautiful, and interesting locations. Cornwall
Cornwall is the southernmost county in the United Kingdom and is famous for its fantastic beaches, with most locals believing that they stack up well against even the best beaches in the world! The county of Cornwall is home to a couple of locations in House of the Dragon, so you can kill two birds with one stone!
The beach of Kynace Cove, located near the southernmost point of Cornwall, is the setting for our first House of the Dragon location. This stunning beach has fantastically white sands, crystal clear water, and rocky formations covered in plant life and greenery. This is the location of the Velaryon army camp and is a great place to spend an afternoon stroll.
Our second location is the town of Marazion, and while the town itself is beautiful with its cobblestone streets and old fishing cottages, its main attraction is located just offshore. On a small piece of land off the coast of Marazion is St Michael’s Mount, an island that hosts a 12th-century castle. This location was used as the ancestral home of House Velaryon, and many battle scenes were filmed just up the road at Holywell Beach.
Surrey
Our next location is the county of Surrey in southwest London. This historic county has been featured in many a Hollywood blockbuster over the years, from Skyfall to Four Weddings and a Funeral, and it can now add Game of Thrones to that list.
The show set up a medieval shooting location at Caesar’s Camp, an Iron Age fort in the town of Aldershot. However, the film producers have been tight-lipped as to which part of the show was filmed in Surrey, so eagle-eyed viewers will have to keep a lookout for the location of the show. If you want to take a trip to Surrey, there are many things to do, including a range of fantastic museums, great places to eat and drink, and even fun and exciting casinos.

If you’re looking for something else to do, we recommend taking a tour of the Museo de la Coria or visiting the Trujillo Planetarium. While the town isn’t particularly big, it makes for a great day trip if you’re close by.
