Straight Outta Nowhere: Scooby-Doo! Meets Courage The Cowardly Dog is a delightful treat for the most part.
Marred somewhat by a third act that, while visually interesting, is not as funny as the earlier portions of the movie.
Overall, I would still recommend it.
Featuring a team up of our favorite mystery solving teenagers and their dog Scooby with a lovable dog, Courage, from the small town of Nowhere.
They meet as a mysterious sound has Scooby running away from the gang and running into Courage. This team up leads the Scooby gang and new friends into a mystery involving giant cicadas and a mystery computer.
Can the new gang solve this mystery?
Straight Outta Nowhere managed to give me a smile that I carried throughout most of the movie. It married the sensibility of two characters in a fun way.
The humor was at times cringe worthy, as when Eustace first meets Scooby and friends. There was a long silence, which was bold for an animated movie. There was also boisterous moments as when Eustace is trying to scare Scooby and Shaggy.
The movie knows to hit the comedy chord.
The jokes stop coming however. With the last twenty minutes rushing a solution, it just becomes less effective and nowhere near as funny as the first two thirds. It would feel like a slog, But we get to see Courage, who plays a huge part in the movie’s climax. Courage is just a light, fun character that along with Scooby elevated his scenes.
Ultimately, Straight Outta Nowhere is a fun romp. Definitely worthy of a rental with the family.
