Let me start by telling you all now that Boushh’s costume in Return of the Jedi is second only to Boba Fett in all of Star Wars in my book.
Given that I have practically no knowledge of the character, pre-Princess Leia, I was looking forward to seeing how one of my favorite character designs was portrayed in its native form.
I liked the issue a lot, but wasn’t jumping up and down for joy, either.
Boushh’s backstory works well.
We get to see a clan of Boushh’s kind and I like that I can’t tell you whether or not Boushh is a he or a she yet. I just don’t know.
The creatives responsible for this issue were also very careful to maintain other tantalizing layers of mystery behind the character, resulting in some very subtle and visually savvy panel art.
As the story progresses, we cross paths with Domina Tagge, Doctor Aphra’s employer. While all of these bits are interesting and fill in some of what’s happening behind the scenes in Doctor Aphra’s part of the galaxy, we seem to spend a little too much time with her and her corporate family drama.
In fact, for a while there, I forgot that I was reading a Boushh focused issue.
Without giving too much away, Boushh’s clan collides with Domina’s family and all hell breaks loose in a straight forward action sequence.
Domina herself gets the better of Boushh and his/her clan and I don’t know how to feel about that. I’m both impressed with Domina Tagge’s character and disappointed in Boushh’s. But, it’s where this is all going which is more important.
Once again, all roads lead to Crimson Dawn and the Han Solo, frozen in carbonite, auction party, though Han Solo isn’t mentioned at all here. This can only lead to the one answer to the one question to which I’m looking forward to the most:
How does Princess Leia acquire Boushh’s outfit?
