‘Jenny Zero #4’ (review)

Written by Brockton McKinney ,Dave Dwonch
Art by Magenta King
Published by Dark Horse Comics

Jenny Zero has been an enjoyable well written and wonderfully illustrated throwback style kaiju story, a love letter to the Japanese pop culture icons like Johnny Sokko, Ultraman, Kamen Rider and of course the king himself, Godzilla. A loving tribute with a unique style of art that, I think, suits the overall story.

Writers Brockton McKinney and Dave Dwonch have nailed the fun style of those old films along with the mystery and action as well.

Magenta King’s eclectic art style is refreshing and allows the kinetic energy of the story to really breathe and flow with excitement. The vibrant colors lend to the old vivid colors of those great films that I grew up watching on a Saturday morning as a kid and loving every minute of.

In this final issue of this arc we see the final battle of Jenny as she finally embraces her true badass kaiju self and begins to really understand the power and responsibility that such greatness holds.

As the government takes off the kid gloves and loads to bear its full power on Jenny, can she triumph over their latest super powered weapon?

In the end will she realize the duty she has to herself and the world and join them in defense of the planet? A

ll will be revealed… or will it?

As things begin to normalize will more nefarious factions and secret unknown plans rear their ugly head?

Hopefully this series will continue in volume 2 as I have become fully invested in this book and its great fun characters.

We shall see and hope that they will!
