This issue has it all!
A double fake-out, great action, a spacewalk of doom, death in space, everything!
I appreciate more stuff added to the lore here for those of us who tapped out after Prometheus. Some of this may have been in Alien: Covenant, but I didn’t watch that mess. Neither did many of you, based on the box office.
But here we find out about “free synths” who act if their own accord and are plotting to destroy humanity and inherit Earth.
This would connect thematically to the David android in Covenant, who is experimenting the with biological weapon from the Engineer’s ship back in Prometheus that eventually evolves into the Xenomorph we know and fear.
We also learn about the mysterious Xenomorph/human hybrid woman in Gabriel’s dreams, and how it ties into the creation of the Xenomorphs.
This all opens doors to more stories and ideas that I hope will play out in the next arc of stories or sometime down the line. But for now, this issue is packed with action and edge-of-your-seat thrills.
Gabriel acts as the doomed man not seeking redemption, but just one good deed before he meets his end. To save his son Danny, who’s impregnated with a xeno fetus and has hours before the chestburster kills him.
Bishop can attempt to cut the thing out, but he might kill Danny in the process. All this happens as the hyper-sleep tube in an Epsilon Station escape pod is busted, and Danny’s girlfriend Iris proves to be a double-agent working for Weyland-Yutani to secure a live alien.
More revelations and double-crosses emerge, and then Gabriel has one shot to decouple the pod from the station before it falls out of Earth orbit and they all burn up on re-entry.
I don’t want to spoil what happens next. Just know the book goes full metal with Gabe and the Alpha alien fighting in space.
And one more twist shows why when it comes to Alien, the saga’s never over.
