PAGES 1-2:
After opening the previous issue with an action scene, this time I wanted to go for some subterfuge…showcase Bond’s intelligence and spycraft. There is indeed a technique for duplicating a fingerprint using a printed circuit board and gelatin to create a “gummy finger.” You can look it up, if you like.
PAGES 3-7:
Of course, we eventually do get to action. The gun that fires around corners is also real. It’s called a “CornerShot” and was developed by Israeli defense forces.
PAGES 8-10:
Here I wanted to really convey why this mission had to be off the books: because literally anyone could be a mole for SPECTRE. That also tells us why it’s so important to Bond to take SPECTRE down, to the point where the backup plan – if things go bad – will brand him a traitor forever. And at the end of the day, this is why Bond does what he does, despite all the good reasons Blofeld gave him to switch sides last issue: for Queen and Country. Something Blofeld, for all his skills and genius, can’t truly understand.
PAGE 11:
I always try to think of ways to make talky scenes visually interesting. Having Bond sew up his own wound was my solution this time. It just kind of makes you cringe, doesn’t it?
PAGES 12-16:
This is a bit of a twist on Bond being irresistible to women. He knows Titania Jones isn’t the type to risk her safety pursuing a handsome face. But for her to get as far as she has in SPECTRE, she must have a keen mind. Bond gives her a riddle she can’t resist getting an answer to.
PAGES 17-19:
Oh snap! Felix Leiter, Bond’s friend – the same friend whose life Blofeld threatened to force Bond to work with him – is here and protecting Titania! Again, we see how personal feelings and duty often can’t coexist in the world in which Bond lives.
PAGE 20:
Wait, what just happened…? Now THAT is what we call a cliffhanger, folks…
