‘Sweet Tooth: The Return #6’ (review)

Written and Illustrated by Jeff Lemire
Published by DC Comics

Well, this is it. The finale of Jeff Lemire’s revival of the Sweet Tooth series.

Although it wasn’t as long or as in depth as the previous and original Sweet Tooth run, there is a lot to like in this sequel of sorts. Lemire has done it again in my opinion, and the results speak for themselves.

This series has has a race against time in it.

It has been said that soon all of the hybrid beasts that populate this world were going to get sick and die.

Father’s plans are finally coming to fruition.

We get to see the plan in full motion here and it is pretty horrifying to say the least.

Will Father’s villainous ways destroy the entire world? It certainly seems like that is the direction that this is all headed in. It is up to Gus, Earl, and Penny to stop him.

So that is what they try to do.

What follows from there is momentous.

This leads us to the conclusion of this series. These are the best moments of the entire book. The great thing about Lemire is that he really takes risks and chances here and it is truly awesome to see. The ending is as perfect as can be.
Jeff Lemire is one of the most amazing creators out there and he proves that yet again. Both the writing and artwork are perfectly balanced here. The book is beautiful to look at and very poignant. I hope he does another sometime soon.

RATING: A
