Creator’s Commentary: Anthony Marques’ on ‘Green Hornet #4’ from Dynamite!

[NOTE: Potential spoilers! Buy and read the book, then come back here for the commentary!]

Hi there everyone! Thanks so much for taking the time to click on the link to read some of my jumbled words!

Working on Green Hornet has been a lot of fun for me. The story was something that we had all been working on for a long time and to finally see it come to life has been a real treat, for lack of a better word.

I will do my best to add in some commentary for you here on some of the pages from issue 4 of Green Hornet.

So at the end of issue 3, we were introduced to the character of Mantis, a deadly assassin skilled in martial arts, who is now squared off against Kato in a pretty incredible fight. As we open here, we find out that Mantis is not only a skilled fighter but also has powers that allow her to manipulate the ground around her.

We have a pretty awesome flip to show Kato’s own skills as he dodges the giant hands coming out and up from the ground. Unfortunately, though, she catches him with a kick, knocking him to the ground.

Fed-up Kato delivers a spearing kick. Taking Mantis down to the ground.

Mantis is about fed up with Kato at this point. I really wanted you to see the frustration and anger on her face here as she is spitting out some grossness.

We bring back in my favorite character of this series, the Astronaut. He has been such a great source of humor and horror in this series. I love building tension in a story and then alleviating it with some humor.

There’s a great sequence in issue 2 where Green Hornet and Kato get away from the Astronaut and he chases them down. He looks so angry, powers spewing out of him, ready to kill GH and Kato.

GH is worried… until Kato shoots the Astronaut with a mini-stunner, zapping him until he passes out with a quiet thud on the ground.

Here he has escaped from the trunk of the Black Beauty and has created an alliance with Kato until he is able to get what he needs.

And lastly, we have page 6. Some of you may have been wondering where is Green Hornet. Well in the previous issue, he was taken captive by some not-so-friendly folks at a secret military base and when we find him here in this issue, well, he’s been locked up.

I don’t want to give the whole issue away and would recommend that you go out and pick up the issue. If you haven’t read the series yet, then go out and pick up issues 1, 2 and 3 as well! Find me on social media and let me know what you think!

Thanks so much for reading!
