‘Cave Carson Has An Interstellar Eye #5’ (review)

Written by Jonathan Rivera
Illustrated by Michael Avon Oeming
Published by DC Comics

This has been another weirdly unique Young Animal title that is coming to a close when the line closes.

That’s a real shame as these titles have been an absolute delight. I hope Jonathan Rivera keeps writing comics. He is extremely talented.

The title for this two-parter is “We’re Gonna Live Forever.”

Cave Carson, Chloe and Professor Bartow are captured at the beginning of this tale. They are in a space police car headed to be imprisoned. Cave notices outside the police car that there is a Star Adam concert happening that very night. Then, they are promptly rescued.

And ironically, it’s Star Adam that saves them!

Star Adam then takes them on a wild trip through time and the cosmos.

The story is fun for sure. The thing that impressed me the most are the emotions that are put in. When Cave first sees that it is Star Adam that has freed him, it’s emotional in a way I didn’t expect. The dialogue was beautifully written in that scene and I just loved it. Every scene is nicely written here as well as strongly structured.

The art by Oeming is tops. He is always great. The work has been amazing. It’s always expressive and fun. I will always follow his work wherever he goes. Each scene is carefully composed and full of pop. His artwork is always worth picking up a comic for.

In just one issue, this title will be going away. That’s really sad to me. I have loved this book from the very beginning. I hope this character continues in some form from this creative team. This has been memorable for sure.

RATING: A
