Rebuked by Batman for not surrendering her sister, Beth aka supervillian Alice, to Arkham for treatment, Kate Kane has taken her in. Batwoman responds to a news alert because a robot is attacking GCPD Headquarters where she is reunited with an old flame, Dectective Renee Montoya!
Montoya is working on a drug case, an interesting comic book concept of a drug that allows for you to see one second into the future.
Sure, one second doesn’t seem like a lot of time but what if you took a handful?
Actually the conceit is that bad guys will use that second to see if someone is going for a gun or an alarm. She is inclined to blame Black Mask or Calendar Man but the real villain is revealed at the end of the issue.
Marguerite Bennett continues to be a perfect fit for these red gauntlets, inserting both smart feminist dialogue and real situations like family taking care of a sick sister, as well as laying on the thick absurd Batman ’66 of it all.
Where Kate lacks a giant penny in this episode it is more than made up for in the scoping out of a high society ball in a scene taken right from a Bond movie. Her custom head to toe red suit with matching top and black tie and red bat domino mask is brilliant. Why let Bruce be the one who steps out all of the time? Montoya plays both the perfect date and dancing partner until…Clock King reveals himself with an army of automatons to kill Batwoman!
