Unhung Hero is the story of a man (Patrick Moote) who has a small penis and goes on a quest all over the world trying to see if he can make it bigger.
Yeah, this is definitely a guy movie.
Moote’s issues started when he proposed to his girlfriend at the UCLA game while on Kiss Cam and she refused him in front of everyone.
As if that humiliation was not enough, he finds out that she wouldn’t marry him because his dick is small, thus the epic journey of a man and his small junk.
Moote’s adventure in small prickland causes him seek out advice from doctors and sex specialists, to visit porn stars, to talk with a man who has the biggest schlong, abuse himself with penis pumps, take male enhancement pills, travel to Korea to see penises every bit as small as his (and to feel better about himself) and even, possibly, inject himself with an unknown substance that will supposedly make his member a little bit bigger.
There are also man-on-the-street interviews where Moote asks women if they would ever do to someone what his girlfriend did to him and sit down interviews with columnist Dan Savage and sex performer Annie Sprinkle.
As a woman, I will admit that I don’t understand the issues that men face when it comes to dick size and judging from this documentary, it seems that men feel the same way about their pricks as women do about their weight, so I can certainly empathize with the emotional issues related to feeling “less than normal”, but I as much as I can appreciate the story of a man’s desire to come to terms with his smallness, the film felt a bit staged to me.
Yes, it is true that Moote’s girlfriend left him, but the reason for it doesn’t ring true for me. In fact, I polled several of my female friends after I watched the film and the consensus was that no woman would ever leave a serious relationship just because the guy has less in his pants than other dudes. Those who did happen to have experience with a short stack guy, said that the gentlemen more than made up for their short comings by being particularly adapt in the “Going Down South” department, and if the whole “Little Dick”-thing was truly an issue, they would have booked early on in the relationship. And I agree. But I’m not Moote’s girlfriend and perhaps when confronted with a lifetime of being nub rubbed, she simply walked away (and if that’s the case, shame on her).
Then there is the case that Moote is a comedian/actor who is starring in a documentary that is built upon a sensational topic that will no doubt given him a certain cache that he wouldn’t have attained otherwise (even if that fame and notice comes at the expense of his small penis), all of which leads me to question if the entirety of the project is simply a stage for him to build a career upon. And you know, maybe it is, but isn’t that the whole point of our current state of over-sharing for personal gain nowadays? To tell our deepest, darkest secrets publicly and hope that we receive enough Likes, Shares and false compassion so that our egos are somehow placated enough to believe that we matter?
Yes, this documentary will certainly entertain the masses and there will no doubt be enough male viewers who will feel compassion and a shared sense of dread at Moote’s issues in the junk department, but if you are looking for for a sense of real “Growth” here, you might be disappointed.
And I’m not referring to what’s in his pants.
