Indonesian actor Iko Uwais, who literally kicked as in The Raid, has joined the cast of Keanu Reeves‘
directorial debut, the action drama, Man of Tai Chi. “Set in modern Beijing, story follows the spiritual journey of a young
martial artist (Tiger Chen) whose skills present him with both exciting
opportunities and painful choices.” Reeves will also co-star and Uwais will fight Chen near the climax of the film.
Black Swan screenwriter John J. McLaughlin will reimagine Sinbad for Sony as a family-friendly adventure film which will chronicle, “the mysterious eighth voyage
of legendary sailor Sinbad and his crew, who are on a quest to find
Aladdin’s lamp.”
Mandalay Pictures will develop the upcoming Top Cow comic book series Bushido:
The Way of the Warrior as a feature film. “Set in feudal Japan, revolves around a shipwrecked boy who
grows up as an outcast but leads a brave band of Samurai against a
bloodthirsty horde of vampires in order to save Japan from certain doom.”
Bradley Whitford might join Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson
in Saving Mr. Banks, which chronicles “Walt Disney’s 14-year
effort to persuade Australian author P.L. Travers to sell him the film
rights to her book Mary Poppins“. Thompson will play Travers, and Hanks plays Disney. The film also stars Colin Farrell, “in the poignant role of Travers’
father, who inspired the Mr. Banks character that David Tomlinson played
in Mary Poppins. He died when the author was very young.” Whitford would play Don DaGradi, who co-wrote the screenplay.
Doctor Who‘s Karen Gillan will star in the horror film Oculus. “The plot begins 10 years
after a horrifying family incident left two young children orphans.
Although authorities charged the brother with murder, his sister,
Kaylie, believed that the true culprit was a haunted antique mirror. Now
rehabilitated and in his 20s, the brother is ready to move on but
Kaylie is determined to prove that the mirror was responsible for
destroying their family.”
Ashley Judd and Robert Forster have joined the Antoine Fuqua White House thriller Olympus Has Fallen which stars Gerard Butler as a Secret Service agent trying to stop Korean terrorists who
have taken over the White House and take President Aaron Eckhart hostage. Judd will play the First Lady and Forster will play, “a high-ranking general who is forced to deal with the nuke-loving terrorists.”
Dreamworks Animation has confirmed a third installment of Kung Fu Panda and another Madagascar feature based on the film’s scheming penguins.
Will Smith will possibly star in and make his directorial debut with a project focusing on the Biblical battling brothers, Cain and Abel. The film has been developed under the title The Redemption Of Cain.
Reese Witherspoon‘s company Pacific Standard has acquired (presumably for Witherspoon to star in) the New York Times bestselling novel, Gone Girl. Gillian Flynn will write the screenplay based on her book about, “a woman disappears on the day of her fifth anniversary and all roads point to her husband as the killer.”

Michael Bay will produce the techno thriller The Rising.
Universal is looking to bring two Broadway musicals to the screen. Jon Favreau will likely direct Jersey Boys: The Story Of Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons and Stephen Daldry is being courted to direct the Oz-centric musical, Wicked.
