Maurice Sendak, “widely considered the most important children’s book artist of the 20th century” has passed away at 83, following complications from a stroke.
Best known for his classic, Where The Wild Things Are, Sendak’s work touched millions of young readers. Among his other beloved books are In The Night Kitchen and Brundibar (written by Tony Kushner).
When director Spike Jonze adapted Sendak’s Where The Wild Things Are, he also made a companion documentary with Lance Bangs on the author titled Tell Them Anything You Want, which revealed the many hardships and challenges Sendak experienced; it’s at times heartbreaking, a far cry from a man who brought so much joy into people’s lives.
