GLEN KEANE Bids Adieu To DISNEY

Glen Keane, who was instrumental with the resurrection of Disney’s animated films two decades ago has parted ways with the studio after 38 years.

Keane, the son of The Family Circus cartoonist Bil Keane, perhaps the most recognized artist of the Disney renaissance brought to life such animated icons as Ariel, the Beast, Aladdin, Rapunzel, Pocahontas and Tarzan.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, “a Disney spokesperson said, ‘After an incredible 38-year career as an animator, storyteller, and filmmaking pioneer with Walt Disney Animation Studios, Glen Keane has decided that the time has come to take the next step in his personal exploration of the art of animation.  As much as we are saddened by his departure, we respect his desires and wish him the very best with all his future endeavors.’”

Cartoon Brew released Keane’s resignation letter, which praised both Disney and his collaborators and served as a testament to his love of the medium.

“I am convinced that animation really is the ultimate art form of our time with endless new territories to explore. I can’t resist it’s siren call to step out and discover them.”

I think pretty much any fan of animation is anxiously anticipating and awaiting Keane’s next announced project.
