The Ladies From THE HELP Find Gainful New Employment

Academy Award nominees for The Help, Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer haven’t spent this awards season resting on their laurels as both actresses have booked high profile gigs.

Davis, who’s nominated as Best Actress has signed on to two potential franchises, Ender’s Game and Beautiful Creatures.

Ender’s Game is based on the novel by Orson Scott Card and is set in Earth’s future, and focuses on a young genius strategist who is recruited by the government to help destroy an insect-like alien race.

According to Variety, “Davis will play a military psychologist who oversees the emotional welfare of young trainees. She also helps design the games that test their skills and resilience.”  Ender’s Game is being directed by Gavin Hood.

Beautiful Creatures is based on a trilogy of novels by Margaret Stohl-Kami Garcia and follows two teens who must confront a curse that has haunted the girl’s family for generations.

The film will be adapted and directed by Richard LaGravenese and Davis plays a librarian and family friend of one of the characters and will do whatever she can to protect him.

As for Spencer?

The Best Supporting Actress nominee has signed on for Snow Piercer, joining fellow cast members Chris Evans, John Hurt, Tilda Swinton and Korean actor Kang Ho Song.

Snow Piercer is being directed by Bong Joon-Ho, who’s Korean monster movie The Host, was an international success.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Snow Piercer,  “is set in a future where, after a failed experiment to stop global warming, an Ice Age kills off all life on the planet except for the inhabitants of the Snow Piercer, a train that travels around the globe and is powered by a sacred perpetual-motion engine. A class system evolves on the train but a revolution brews.”

Spencer plays a passenger on the train who joins the revolt in order to save her son.  She will also co-star in Diablo Cody’s untitled directorial debut.
