Is Christopher Nolan Filming a Fake BATMAN Movie?

Keep in mind that this is purely speculative, but I really have a hard time believing that the paparazzi footage that we’ve been seeing has much to do with the upcoming The Dark Knight Rises.

After the jump check out my 5 reasons why that it’s all a front and let me know your thoughts.

  1. Christopher Nolan is an incredibly private and secretive filmmaker.  Why would he suddenly abandon that and film so many sequences so publicly?
  2. We’re seeing an awful lot of daytime footage.  Perfect for paparazzi, but in the previous two films, how many times did we see Bale in costume during the day?
  3. Even the teaser trailer is notoriously vague, giving glimpses of what’s to come.  Why abandon that entirely while filming?
  4. Even though it’s costly to film sequences just to throw off the paparazzi, The Dark Knight grossed over a billion dollars worldwide, and I’m sure Warner is looking to beat that.  Why would several “key sequences” such as a prison break, the Batwing and a football arena be open to so much opportunity for spoilers and paparazzi footage and photos?  I don’t recall seeing a single photo of the mayor’s funeral parade or the truck sequence from Dark Knight during filming.
  5. Even the Catwoman footage has consisted of just a stunt-woman and one studio released still.

If this truly is Nolan’s last Batman film, I really can’t fathom why he would suddenly share so many plot elements with the audience during production.

And lastly, and this is just a theory: despite casting announcements and presence on the set that contradicts otherwise, I think that Joseph Gordon Levitt’s appearance will take place in flashback as a man who meets with Ra’s al Ghul who swears to plunge Gotham into chaos.  We never got an accurate story how he got those scars, did we?

The Dark Knight Rises will be in theaters July 20, 2012
