First conjured by author J. M. Barrie and appearing in his 1902 book, The Little White Bird, Peter Pan became the main character in Barrie’s 1904 stage play Peter Pan, or The Boy Who Wouldn’t Grow Up.
In 1911, Barrie adapted and expanded the play’s story line as a novel, Peter and Wendy, which placed the character and it’s storyline firmly into popular culture.
The story of Peter Pan has been adapted to film several times including a silent film in 1924, a Disney animated film in 1953, a quasi-sequel, Hook, from director Steven Spielberg in 1991, and a live action version directed by P. J. Hogan in 2003.
Now, on October 9th, director Joe Wright explores the origins of the character in Warner Bros.’ Pan starring Levi Miller as Peter, Hugh Jackman as Blackbeard and Garrett Hedlund as Hook.
