‘Supergirl #40’ (review)

Written by Jody Houser
Art by Rachael Stott
Published by DC Comics

I am really enjoying the direction the creators have taken this book.

The direction is definitely an unexpected one for Supergirl, but it works great. I commend the team on not only taking a leap creatively, but also for the interesting stories that have come from it all.

The beginning of the issue has the Supergirl Who Laughs facing off against Wonder Woman. They are circling each other, ready for battle.

And then comes the moment we have all been waiting for: They duke it out.

Man, what a glorious fight it is!

Rachael Stott does an excellent job illustrating it.

The action is clear and precise.

And that is really all that this issue really is.

It’s good old fashioned slugfest. It is also strangely compelling.

Eventually, The Supergirl Who Laughs has Krypto come up to her. He gets her to pause.

This gives Wonder Woman an opportunity to get inside her opponent’s brain. And she doesn’t waste that opportunity.

The ending of the book is a strangely emotional moment. I give writer Jody Houser a lot of credit. The writing is golden. The art is pretty perfect for this story and these two ladies work well together.

This was a really awesome issue.

RATING: A-
