SHERMAN HELMSLEY (1938-2012)

Sherman Helsmley, best known for his portrayal of George Jefferson on the television series All in the Family and The Jeffersons has passed away.

Helmsley started his career on stage before becoming a fixture on television which included appearances on The Love Boat, Fantasy Island, Family Matters, The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, The Incredible Hulk, and 227.  From 1986-1991, Helmsley portrayed Deacon Ernest Frye on the television series, Amen.

He also appeared in over a dozen comedies and was a voice on the television series, Dinosaurs.  Helmsley also frequently reunited with his The Jeffersons co-star Isabel Sanford in a number of guest appearances on commercials, television and film and with co-star Marla Gibbs, brought The Jeffersons to Broadway for a brief period of time.
