Today would have been Jack Kirby’s 94th birthday.
For fans of pop culture, in a perfect world, it would be celebrated with a postage stamp, a television special and a day off from work.
Kirby, who is affectionately known as “The King” is among the most important figures in the history of comic books. Kirby, who passed away in 1994, is either responsible or co-creator of the following icons; The Fantastic Four, The X-Men, Thor, Iron Man, The Avengers, Black Panther, The Hulk, Captain America and Bucky, Ant-Man, Wasp, Nick Fury, The Silver Surfer, Adam Warlock, The Boy Commandos, Captain 3-D, The Challengers of the Unknown, Darkseid, Devil Dinosaur, Doctor Doom, The Eternals, Etrigan the Demon, The Fighting American, Fin Fang Foom, Forever People, Galactus, The Inhumans, Kamandi, Machine Man, Mister Miracle, The New Gods, The Newsboy Legion, OMAC, Quicksilver, The Red Skull, Loki, S.H.I.E.L.D., Sandman, Scarlet Witch, Two-Gun Kid, The Warriors Three, Wonder Man and Ka-Zar.
