‘Future State: The Next Batman #2’ (review)

Written by John Ridley,
Vita Ayala, Paula Sevenbergen
Art by Laura Braga, Aneke,
Emanuela Lupacchino
Published by DC Comics

The main storyline in this book is literally fantastic. It is so good that I am not going to focus at all on the backup features in this comic as those stories are just horrible.

The main story is so damn good however, that it deserves attention.

Writer John Ridley writes an amazing story with this book.

The previous issue introduced us to a new version of Batman on the streets of Gotham. Tim Fox has taken over the mantle and we get to see more of his adventures in this issue.

This issue really starts off with a bang.

The opening features Batman going up against the Magistrate in an all out brawl. It is an exciting opening and really starts the issue off the right way.

After this cool opening, Batman heads on the trail of a couple who might be a pair of murderers. It is a case that he must solve.

We do get some compelling human drama as well here. It is never boring and you do care about the characters when they are out of costume. The plot goes crazy and by the end of the issue nothing is what it initially seemed to be.

The last page of this story really is something to behold.

The story by John Ridley is great. It feels completely new and a complete breath of fresh air to be honest. I love what he is doing here. Laura Braga turns out to be the perfect artist for this book as well. She does a great job of making the look feel new and interesting.

A great job overall!

RATING: A
